At the foothills of the Canigou, the Aspres are made up of valleys covered with dense forest higher up, and low-lying vegetation on the plain.
Its paths have long been trodden by merchants and miners, not to mention pilgrims walking the Way of St. James, on their way to the Tech Valley.
In every village or town in the area, a chapel or a church steeped in history is to be found. It is a place of tradition, rugged and mysterious with its villages and its men.
Today, the Aspres are moving towards “green tourism” and the area, with its rich cultural and culinary heritage, is a hidden gem of the Catalan region waiting to be discovered. Travel round the Aspres, and enjoy the undulating landscape, planted with vines, olive trees, holly oak and cork oak.
Drop in on our producers and treat yourself to local produce. And don’t forget to stop off at one of the numerous vineyards that dot the landscape to taste our wines!
The Aspres – Land of character
Land of age-old tradition between Pyrenees and Mediterranean,
Land that is rugged and mysterious,
Land of scrubland and schist, of holly oak, of vine…
Land of tradition and culture
Land with its villages and its men,
Land kept alive and preserved by men with skill and talent.
